Summary:

“It’s the following Thursday.

Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He’s made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.

As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn’t that be a bonus?

But this time they are up against an enemy who wouldn’t bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can The Thursday Murder Club find the killer (and the diamonds) before the killer finds them?”

Review:

“You are simply a little lost. And if one is never lost in life, then clearly one has never traveled anywhere interesting.”

This book and these characters 🥰 I swear they get better with every book in the series. I’ve become so attached to all of them that there is no way I can pick just one to love. Yes, there are a lot of characters to get used to at first, but Richard Osman does such an extraordinary job in creating them that it takes no time to figure out who is who.

The Man Who Died Twice picks up right where The Thursday Murder Club ended, and we’re back in the swing of things with this group of expert sleuths.

This book hit a little differently than the first one; it felt heavier and more poignant. There’s a conversation between two characters (Ibrahim & Donna) that I read again because it seemed so applicable to how I was currently feeling. It felt like just the book I needed in my life.

But that is the beauty of this series. Yes, the characters are trying to solve a murder and find missing diamonds, but they also impart their wisdom along the way. I always end up closing the last page and feeling like I must let go of a hug from my favorite person.

🥰 same lovable characters with a few new ones mixed in!

The books in the Thursday Murder Club series are not standalone. While the author does an excellent job of reminding his readers what transpired in the last book, you must read them in order, or you will miss out on some magnificent character development.

And watch out for my review of the third book in the series, The Bullet That Missed! Spoiler alert: It’s another five star.
