“When I try to picture for myself what a happy life might look like, the picture hasn’t changed very much since I was a child – a house with flowers and trees around it, and a river nearby, and a room full of books, and someone there to love me, that’s all.”
This was my first Sally Rooney book, and what a book to pick up!
There were aspects to the book that I loved. I think my favorite characters were Eileen and Simon – I adored their relationship and how they communicated/flirted with one another. I could’ve read an entire book about their lives separately and together.
Nestled within the stories are explorations of our world, relationships, sexuality, family, work, and what friendship means. Their conversations were filled with raw emotion and honesty. But, don’t get me wrong, there wasn’t a lot of the book that left me feeling happy.
π Quirky characters that were both easy and hard to love.
