“Secrets are only secrets for the people who don’t know them yet.”
Last year, I read and loved His & Hers by Alice Feeney. She knows how to write an unreliable narrator, and in Rock Paper Scissors, she did just that!
I’m not going to lie; I struggled a bit with this book because there were just many aspects that didn’t add up to me. But, in all honesty, I think that’s precisely what Feeney was going for. There was this unreliable aspect to the story — what is truly going on beneath the surface of this marriage? I couldn’t quite put my finger on what I was missing. Rock Paper Scissors is one of those books you struggle to make sense of, and then the author is like, ‘BAM! Here is everything you missed.”
❓Unreliable narrator
🧑🏽👱🏽♀️Couple with issues that they’re hoping to resolve
🧐 Some moments that make you go, “huh?”
🔀 Twisty little ending
❌ Triggers: Fertility issues, miscarries, animal abuse. But, do not worry; nothing happens to the protagonist’s dog.
I recommend you read Rock Paper Scissors if you enjoyed reading Every Vow You Break, The Good Sister, or The Wife Upstairs.
