“Death is everywhere, all the time. It’s on the ballfields and at the supermarket and hiding under the bed at night, just like we feared when we were little kids. Hell it’s probably riding right here in the car with us, waiting for the opportunity..”
Welp, this book was not what I anticipated it being. At all. I was a nervous mess just 20 pages into the story. It was one of those stories that I felt like I was working alongside the detective trying to figure out what pieces to the puzzle I was missing. The entire story, it all felt like it was right under my nose. Was it her dad? What about Nick? Her brother? Dad’s partner? The list was never-ending, and I loved it! It was a true cat and mouse game with wildly unpredictable twists (keyword: twistS).
I have to admit that Grace’s chapters weren’t my favorite to read; she annoyed me a bit. But, Annalisa? I loved her character and found her a refreshing take on the female detective protagonist – she wasn’t afraid to show her emotions, unlike many female detectives in books who always come across cold.
I look forward to other books featuring Annalisa Vega’s character in the future.

I recommend you read Gone for Good if you enjoyed reading Final Girls, When The Stars Go Dark, or Karin Slaughter books!
