Dark Roads

Thank you, St Martin’s Press, for gifting me a copy of Dark Roads! {partner}

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

Trope: Missing Person

Pub Date: 8.3.21

Star Rating: ☆☆☆☆

“No one wakes up thinking, I’m going to die on a dark road tonight, but that’s the point, isn’t it? You’re young and free, with your entire life ahead of you… Then, all of a sudden, you meet the wrong person, and it’s over.”

I love a good thriller. I want something that keeps me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, holding my breath.. all that thrillers give you. But, after reading Dark Roads, I’ve realized that psychological/domestic thrillers are more my vibe. The horror thriller or serial killer thriller is not my jam — because it feels real and terrifying.

Me saying this doesn’t mean that I didn’t like Dark Roads but it was a little too intense for me. Now, I know there are those out there that will LOVE this book. It hooks you from the first sentence and it does. not. stop. I’m serious. It is a pulse-pounding, page-turning, ride that keeps you reading until you’ve closed the books and you begin to process what you just read. Stevens is a talented author and I will be thinking about this story for a long time.

📖 Page-turner

👩🏽👩🏻 Dual-Narrative

😳 Characters with some serious problems

🕵🏽‍♀️ Missing women

❌- Trigger Warning

🐕 There is a dog and two things happen to the dog but the dog does survive.

🙈 There is one scene that will stay with me for a long time as it involves sexual torture. It disturbed me greatly but was an integral part of the story.

If you choose to pick this one up or add it to your reading list, be prepared to cancel your plans as you won’t want to put this book down.
