Finlay Donovan Is Killing It
Thank you to Minotaur Books and Booksparks for gifting me a copy of Finlay Donovan Is Killing It to read and review!
“Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.
When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.”

What an incredibly fun, laugh-out-loud story this was to read! I was sucked into the book on page one and immediately fell in love with Finlay as she tried desperately to succeed in her life. I knew where the story was going and, for once, I didn’t mind because I kept anticipating all of the ways that Finlay might respond and what situation she would find herself in next.
Also, talk about her unexpected side-kick – Vero! I loved her character. They were both killing it. I mean that figuratively and literally – it was refreshing to read a book where the heroine of the story didn’t rely on a man to fix her problems. The companionship that Vero brought to Finlay was phenomenal. I was rooting for the dynamic duo from start to finish.
For those of you who have always been interested in watching Dexter but can’t handle a lot of gore (hi, it’s me), then Finlay Donovan Is Killing It is the perfect book for you. I didn’t find any of the story to be over the top and, honestly, could picture it all playing out like a movie. Speaking of, this should be made into a tv-series – I would love to see Finlay and Vero come to life.
I am crossing all my fingers and toes that Elle Cosimano will write a second book because I NEED more.
Finlay Donovan Is Killing It will be published on February 2, 2021, pre-order it now!
