The Wrong Family
Thank you to Graydon House for gifting me a copy of The Wrong Family to read and provide an honest review.
“Juno was wrong about Winnie Crouch.
Before moving in with the Crouch family, Juno thought Winnie and her husband, Nigel, had the perfect marriage, the perfect son—the perfect life. Only now that she’s living in their beautiful house, she sees the cracks in the crumbling facade are too deep to ignore.
Still, she isn’t one to judge. After her grim diagnosis, the retired therapist wants a place to live out the rest of her days in peace. But that peace is shattered the day Juno overhears a chilling conversation between Winnie and Nigel.
She shouldn’t get involved. She really shouldn’t. But this could be her chance to make a few things right.”
It pains me to write a negative review of a book, and I always try to do my best to have something positive to say about a story, but I am on the struggle bus with this one. The Wrong Family is my second book by Tarryn Fishers, I read The Wives last year, and while it was a tad predictable, I still was able to immerse myself in the story. However, I could not get into her second book.
I felt such a real detachment from the characters that I struggled to focus on the storyline itself. I also felt like this book could have been two separate stories entirely. I was left wanting more throughout the entire book.
I was holding out hope that the ending would set everything right – this why I never DNF a book; I’m always holding out hope that, somehow, the author will pull the rabbit out of the hat, and I will say, “WOW”. However, I did not have that experience with The Wrong Family. The ending didn’t leave me reeling from everything revealed but, instead, left me completely confused.
This book was just not for me and ended up receiving two-stars. I am planning to read Fisher’s next book and, hopefully, you will too. As always, please take my review with a grain of salt and consider giving this book a try. Every book is different for every person.
