Red White and Royal Blue

“When Alex was a kid, before anyone knew his name, he dreamed of love like it was a fairy tale, as if it would come sweeping into his life on the back of a dragon one day. When he got older, he learned about love as a strange thing that could fall apart no matter how badly you wanted it, a choice you make anyway. He never imagined it’d turn out he was right both times.”

Thanks to my Page One Book Club, I finally had the opportunity to read this book and discuss it with a fun group of readers!

“What happens when America’s First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales?

When his mother became President of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There’s only one problem: Alex has a beef with an actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex/Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.

Heads of the family and state and other handlers devise a plan for damage control: Stage a truce between the two rivals. What at first begins as a fake, Instagrammable friendship grows deeper, and more dangerous, than either Alex or Henry could have imagined. Soon Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret romance with a surprisingly unstuffy Henry that could derail the presidential campaign and upend two nations. It raises the question: Can love save the world after all? Where do we find the courage, and the power, to be the people we are meant to ben? And how can we learn to let our true colors shine through? , how will history remember you?”

Oh, my heart! What a fun (and steamy) book this was! I was hooked from page one and devoured this beauty in a little under 48 hours; I couldn’t put it down and when I finally did finish reading it, I wanted more of Alex and Henry. I wanted more of all of the characters in this book. They were all so refreshing and I felt like my heart grew five sizes while reading this story.

Now, I know you’re wondering, why in the world did it take you so long to read this book? Well, my friends, I do not have an answer to that question except to say that when RED WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE made it’s debut back in May of 2019, I wasn’t that into reading books following the First Family or the Royal Family! But now, it suffices to say that I am a little obsessed.

I truly did love every minute of this book. I think we could all take a thing or two away from this storyline and away from the lessons from some of these characters. I fell head over heels with all of them; for their honesty, their vulnerability, their humor, their style, and their way of loving.

If you have been waiting to read this, it is now my turn to say, what are you waiting for?? Add this book to your reading list, check it out from the library, listen to it on Libro.fm, read it on your Kindle or go out to your local book store and buy the dang book.
