Happy and You Know It

They weren’t primed from birth like women were, told that they could be anything they wanted to be while handicapped at every turn by invisible forces, told that they were more than just their looks while also culturally programmed to believe that their value was tied to their desirability. Men aged into silver foxes while women aged into obsolescence.”

Thank you Berkley Publishing for gifting a copy of HAPPY & YOU KNOW IT by Laura Hankin.

“After her former band shot to superstardom without her, Claire reluctantly agrees to a gig as a playgroup musician for overprivileged infants on New York’s Park Avenue. Claire is surprised to discover that she is smitten with her new employers, a welcoming clique of wellness addicts with impossibly shiny hair, who whirl from juice cleanses to overpriced miracle vitamins to spin class with limitless energy.

There is perfect hostess Whitney who is on the brink of social-media stardom and just needs to find a way to keep her perfect life from falling apart. Caustically funny, recent stay-at-home mom Amara who is struggling to embrace her new identity. And old money, veteran mom Gwen who never misses an opportunity to dole out parenting advice. But as Claire grows closer to the cool women who pay her bills, she uncovers secrets and betrayals that no amount of activated charcoal can fix.”

Oh, my word.. this title was full of drama – it was fabulous! I was completely entertained while reading this dark and twisty drama following the lives of some of the elite mothers in New York City. At first, I admit, I was hesitant to pick up this book to read but I finally decided to sit down to give it a shot and I am happy that I did.

There were countless moments that either left me cringing from the oblivious personalities of some of these women to moments of laugh-out-loud “I can’t believe that happened” moments and then the complete shock of realizing that all of the pieces of the story were finally falling into place. It was sensational.

This book read as if it were a TV show and I, for one, would be ecstatic to see it come to life on TV. HAPPY & YOU KNOW IT was a perfect mixture of Big Little Lies, Desperate Housewives, and Real Housewives all combined into one storyline- it was everything that I didn’t realize I needed in my life.

Thank you Berkley Publishing for the gifted copy and thank you, Laura Hankin, for writing such an entertaining read; I look forward to reading what you write next!

HAPPY & YOU KNOW IT will be published on May 19, 2020! I encourage you to add it to order it from your local bookstore today!
