Big Summer

“I’m not brave all the time. No one is. We’ve all been disappointed; we’ve all had our hearts broken, and we’re all just doing our best. Make sure you have people who love you… the real you.”

Thank you Atria Books for gifting me BIG SUMMER by Jennifer Weiner!

“Six years after the fight that ended their friendship, Daphne Berg is shocked when Drue Cavanaugh walks back into her life, looking as lovely and successful as ever, with a massive favor to ask. Daphne hasn’t spoken one word to Drue in all this time—she doesn’t even hate-follow her ex-best friend on social media—so when Drue asks if she will be her maid-of-honor at the society wedding of the summer, Daphne is rightfully speechless.

Drue was always the one who had everything—except the ability to hold onto friends. Meanwhile, Daphne’s no longer the same self-effacing sidekick she was back in high school. She’s built a life that she loves, including a growing career as a plus-size Instagram influencer. Letting glamorous, seductive Drue back into her life is risky, but it comes with an invitation to spend a weekend in a waterfront Cape Cod mansion. When Drue begs and pleads and dangles the prospect of cute single guys, Daphne finds herself powerless as ever to resist her friend’s siren song.”

Writing this review is going to prove to be difficult for me as I am attempting to carefully explain my thoughts and feelings on this title without giving any key points or plots away. Before you assume that I didn’t enjoy reading this book, please know that I did but I was also completely surprised by the storyline as well.

When I read the synopsis for BIG SUMMER, I was fully prepared for the perfect light-hearted beach read about reconnecting and forgiving friends who have wronged us in the past. However, what I discovered was that there was A LOT more to this story than I anticipated. If you’ve read this book then you will understand what I mean when I say that I reached one point of this story and had to pause to reread the synopsis because I was certain that I had missed a key detail in the plot. Again.. not giving anything away here. But, if you do read this book (and you should), message me when you get to this point, and don’t worry, you’ll know exactly what I’m referencing.

This is the perfect beach read or, if you’re like me, and unable to go to the beach this year then it will be the perfect back yard read for a warm summer day.

Thank you, again, Atria for gifting me a copy of this book, and thank you, Jennifer Weiner, for writing another entertaining read.

BIG SUMMER was published on May 5, 2020, and is available to order from your local book store today!

One response to “Big Summer”

  1. I was surprised with the direction this plot took, but on the other hand the second half of the book was definitely more entertaining. I’m looking forward to reading more by the author.
