“History was built by thousands of women who thought they were just housewives or just secretaries or just seamstresses until the day they got fed up and decided to fight back.”
Thank you Berkley Publishing for gifting me a copy of UNDERCOVER BROMANCE by Lyssa Kay Adams.
“Braden Mack thinks reading romance novels makes him an expert in love, but he’ll soon discover that real life is better than fiction.
Liv Papandreas has a dream job as a sous chef at Nashville’s hottest restaurant. Too bad the celebrity chef-owner is less than charming behind kitchen doors. After she catches him harassing a young hostess, she confronts him and gets fired. Liv vows revenge, but she’ll need assistance to take on the powerful chef.
Unfortunately, that means turning to Braden Mack. When Liv’s blackballed from the restaurant scene, the charismatic nightclub entrepreneur offers to help expose her ex-boss, but she is suspicious of his motives. He’ll need to call in reinforcements: the Bromance Book Club.
Inspired by the romantic suspense novel they’re reading, the book club assists Liv in setting up a sting operation to take down the chef. But they’re just as eager to help Mack figure out the way to Liv’s heart… even though she’s determined to squelch the sparks between them before she gets burned.”
Last year when I read BROMANCE BOOK CLUB, I fell in love with my first book boyfriend, Gavin Scott. He was adorable, determined and trying to win back his wife. I have been anxious to get started reading Adams’s sophomore novel, UNDERCOVER BROMANCE since I saw that she was releasing a new book following a different member of the book club. As soon as this book landed on my front porch I immediately began reading it.
I had every intention of taking it slow and savoring Adams’s story but, 24 hours later, I finished the last page. What can I say? I have zero control when it comes to books that are this fun.
I found myself laughing out loud, repeatedly. I couldn’t contain my laughter as I read along and watched Liv and Gavin’s relationship develop. I’m sure that someone will say that this story is predictable but sometimes predictability is nice. When times are uncertain, I enjoy sitting down with a book that I know will make me smile at the end.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there are definitely some tough aspects to UNDERCOVER BROMANCE. Lyssa Kay Adams drew attention to the very serious aspects of workplace sexual harassment and also to domestic violence in this book. So, just a fair warning that there is an underlying heaviness to this story. But, the message is clear- that behavior can not be tolerated. If you have any concerns about picking up this book, please message me, I am happy to ease any worries you may have.
Overall, I LOVED this book. It was everything I hoped it would and then some. I hope that Adams decides to write a third installment to this unique series.
Thank you, Lyssa Kay Adams and Berkley Pub for the opportunity to read this book. UNDERCOVER BROMANCE was released on March 10th and is available to order now. I highly encourage you to shop locally during this time. Our local bookstores are in desperate need of our support.
