“Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything.
Her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest
person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancé is something out of a
romantic comedy (gag) and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by
winning a series of Internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing
Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the
Olive braces herself to get through 24 hours of wedding hell before she can return to her comfortable, unlucky life. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.
Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him is suddenly at risk to become a whole lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend. I saw this book all over Instagram and it gave me some serious FOMO since I didn’t even own a copy of it. I immediately added it to my reading list of books that I wanted to take to the beach. My husband actually surprised me with a copy of it shortly before we left for vacation and I packed it away in my suitcase. The Unhoneymooners was the first book that I picked to read while soaking up my first few days of vacation but I ended up finishing it in one day.
The Unhoneymooners is the PERFECT beach read. It had a little bit of everything that I look for in a good summer vacation read. It was lighthearted, witty, sexy and most importantly, it was laugh-out-loud funny. There were numerous times that I busted out laughing while reading this book; actually, to the point that my husband looked over and said: “what in the world are you reading?” The situations that Olive and Ethan found themselves in were downright cringe-worthy awkward that I had no choice but to laugh at their predicaments.
If you haven’t seen this book floating around the book world, have you been living under a rock? (Just kidding) But, in all seriousness, this is the perfect book for a day at the pool, lake or beach. Christina Lauren is truly a dynamic duo and I look forward to their next adventure!
I was lucky enough to be given TWO copies of this book and I am currently hosting a giveaway for a copy over on my Instagram account! Go check it out!
