My Lovely Wife

“My name is not Tobias. I use that name only when I want someone to remember me. In this case, the bartender… He will remember me. He will remember that Tobias is the deaf man.”

This is the story of a couple who fall in love with one another. Just like other couples out in the world, they met at an early age and fell in love. They began to work towards their future, he is a tennis instructor at a local country club and she is a real estate agent. They get married. They have two children, a boy, and a girl. They move into their dream neighborhood. There are, of course, ups and downs but that’s life. They continue to work hard, support their children and love each other. Just like some couples do, they get bored. They get bored and they wonder what to do. They wonder how to keep their marriage alive. And then, they realize that to keep their marriage alive they need to get away with murder.

Hook, line, and sinker. Samantha Downing, the author of My Lovely Wife, is a master at grabbing her reader’s attention and keeping it… until the very last sentence of the book.

I kept seeing this book all over the place and I added to my reading list. When I finally had a chance to pick it up, I was unsure as to whether or not this would be the right book for me. I’m not a huge fan of thrillers; I do read them but I’m not necessarily drawn to them right away. The beginning of this book drew me in immediately. By the time I finished the first chapter, I was completely absorbed into the story; there was no turning back, I had to know what happens. I mean, really, what book starts that way?

I had countless conflicting thoughts while reading this book. I was disturbed. I was intrigued. I was sitting on the edge of my seat. I was in awe of how completely manipulating someone could be. I couldn’t believe how MANY twists and turns were in this book that I did not see coming. And then, that ending? I mean what an ending.

This is the first thriller that I’ve read in a while and it was a doozy. I highly recommend picking this book up and giving it a read; I don’t think you will be disappointed. This is actually my favorite book of 2019. It was just THAT good

I am most certainly looking forward to the next book that Samantha Downing writes.
